![]() I'd wager there isn't enough interest to examine perceptual learning effects from the illusion (e.g. I skimmed the article, and saw the mention of perceptual learning effects, but the Menning et al paper is not directly a binaural beat paper, nor is the the Oster report in Parkinsons an actual perceptual learning experiment. I don't want to immediately discredit something that could be as great as these beats purport to be, so does anyone know of any truths to the claims of binaural beats? ![]() I've read this straight dope article, which is a source I enjoy and trust for more non-scientific topics, and it came to the same conclusion as myself: "Probably nothing to get excited about here, but who knows?" I've personally labeled these beats as new-age nonsense, right next to ear candles and homeopathic medicine. I haven't seen any solid research to back binaural beats, although it's a more recent discovery so this is natural. I'm a skeptic, though, so I really just attribute this to placebo or better focus since I'm listening to white noise and not the distracting environment. I've used them while studying in the past, and actually had good results. Some sources claim some miraculous things, like sleeping for less than half the usual time or having greatly improved memorization, creativity, or focus. I've been interested in binaural beats for a while. We make our world significant by the courage of our questions and by the depth of our answers.
